My Author Anniversary--9 Years an Author!

I missed it but yesterday was my AUTHOR BIRTHDAY! On December 15, 2006 my very first book (The Spirit of Christmas) released with By Grace Publishing. Nine years an author!

When that book released, I was so pleased. I didn't care if I published anything else but of course it was all just the beginning. When that publisher went out of business, I rewrote the book and submitted it to another publisher. It was renamed All I Want for Christmas and came out in 2009. In 2011, I pulled the book and it's just been sitting on my computer ever since. I plan to do another rewrite and Indy publish it myself in the future.

Thomas Jefferson's Birthday Today

Guess whose birthday it is today? That's right--Thomas Jefferson, one of my favorite people. He said and wrote many insightful & truly quotable things--but this one is my favorite.

Did you Know--After selling his personal library to the Library of Congress, Thomas Jefferson wrote to John Adams in 1815, “I cannot live without books...” He gave up his nearly 7,000 volume library to replace the books burned by the British during the War of 1812. Shortly after this, he began collecting books again amassing another library again by the time of his death. During his lifetime he collected almost 9,000 volumes. I wonder how others feel about books and their own person libraries. Are you like me in that the first thing you think about purchasing is books? Do you have a personal relationship with your books like Jefferson? If we can teach our children the love of books, the world would be a very different place.

Reading Old Favorites on my B-day Weekend

I'm sitting on my bed with a stack of books. All of them YA. It's my birthday weekend and I plan to read as much of them as I can. Among them I have Melody Carlson, Kristin Billerbeck and yes, Meg Cabot (and it's not just because Royal Wedding is coming out this summer!). Do you find yourself re-reading old favorites. I do! I do it all the time. And sometimes I feel guilty about that as there are so many good books out there that I have yet to read. But how can I not revisit these special friends like Elizabeth Bennet and even Princess Mia? So I say, go forth and read: read new books, favorite books and even something outside your usual reading genre. There is nothing better than being submerged in a good book. That's how I'll be spending my birthday--well, between eating good food and birthday cake, of course.
